Around 200 pregnant women participated in the National Buntis Day Celebration conducted by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Region II Trauma and Medical Center (R2TMC), in collaboration with the Provincial Integrated Health Office (PIHO) headed by Dr. Anthony F. Cortez, Provincial Health Officer II, on March 10, 2023 at the R2TMC, Magsaysay, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.
Present during the said activity were Dr. Ame Lopez, President, Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS)-Northeastern Luzon; Dr. Ray P. Suanding, R2TMC Medical Center Chief II; Ms. Angelyn M. Cajucom, Nurse III, PIHO, and all the doctors and staff from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the R2TMC.
Ms. Connie Quernery lectured on Nutrition in Pregnancy. The topic covered the changes that occur during pregnancy and the consequences of maternal undernutrition. A lecture on Breastfeeding was discussed by Ms. Elvira Paz. She stressed on the importance of breastfeeding from birth up to 6 months of life. Meanwhile, Dr. Alice Casumpang who discussed about Family Planning reiterated that every Filipino should have access to correct information, medically safe, legal, non-abortifacient, effective, and culturally acceptable modern family planning methods.
Highlighting the event were the Search for Buntis Got Talent where 6 pregnant finalists showcased their talents, and Pinggang Pinoy pang-buntis where the 5 finalists presented a sample of their meal with the right proportion of food that pregnant women should consume per meal using the DOST-FNRI Pinggang Pinoy for Pregnant Women guidelines.
It can be recalled that during the Taripnong on March 9, 2023, Dr Anthony F. Cortez committed to support not only the programs, projects, and activities of the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV), but also PIHO’s counterparts in the National Government and component LGUs.#mvs
