10-year Solid Waste Management (SWM) Plan CY 2023 discussion took center stage during the provincial Solid Waste Management Board and Technical Working Group meeting, presided by Forester Tito A. Tanguilig and the Provincial Administrator (PA) Jovito O. Celestino.
Held on June 26, 2024 at the NV Livelihood and Pasalubong Center, Bayombong, the discussion highlighted key issues from the Board’s previous meetings, particularly concerns raised by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Offices (MENRO) and the current SWM situation in the towns of the province.
PA Celestino commended the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENARO) under the leadership of For. Tanguilig for their outstanding performance. The board meeting recognized PENARO for successfully passing the recent Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) assessment and validation. Their complete documentation from meetings and other SWM Board activities played a critical l role in securing the seal.
This meeting and the updated SWM Plan aligned closely with Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito’s environmental initiatives addressing environmental issues and concerns and advocating policies that promote sustainability and responsible waste management. Under his administration several initiatives aimed at reducing waste, increasing recycling efforts, and promoting environmental awareness among residents were launched.
Key issues addressed during the meeting included the implementation strategies for solid waste management in the province’s 15 towns, the various solid waste management initiatives, and PENARO’s accomplishments from 2019 to 2023. /gpp
