On August 20, 2024, the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV) through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) together with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) spearheaded the relief distribution for legitimate farmers affected by the El Niño phenomenon in Lublub, Alfonso Castañeda, with key figures including Provincial Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, Governor’s Executive Assistant Emerlene Jane “EJ” G. Martinez, Board Member Patricio F. Dumlao Jr., Pastor Clem Cadoy, and Alfonso Castañeda Vice Mayor Evelinda D. Huerta.
In response to the severe effects of the climate crisis, relief efforts have been launched to aid legitimate farmers who have been heavily impacted by the recent climate event. Under Gov. Gambito’s leadership, the PSWDO is leading these initiatives, working to ensure that crucial assistance is delivered to those affected. The PGNV is working to offer both immediate relief and sustained support to local farmers suffering from drought conditions.
The relief operations are bolstered by generous donation from the FY 2024 Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (LDRRMF) of the PDRRMO, with 354 legitimate A.C farmers receiving two bags each. A total of 708 bags of relief goods were given to A.C farmers affected by drought at Lublub Evacuation Center. The PDRRMO assisted in transporting the aid to Alfonso Castañeda. The release of relief goods started August 12, 2024, in the municipalities of Villaverde, Ambaguio, Santa Fe and Dupax del Sur with a total of 2,491 beneficiaries from entire province. These beneficiaries were the farmers affected by “El Niño” but were not included in the list provided by the MLGUs to receive the P10,000 assistance from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Vice Mayor Huerta thanked everyone for their support, noting how crucial the assistance is in easing the difficulties experienced by the farming community. BM Dumlao stressed the need for ongoing support and cooperation to address the impacts of future climate events. Pastor Clem Cadoy delivered a message of hope and encouragement to the farmers affected.
Governor Gambito, who also addressed the gathering, reassured the community of the provincial government’s ongoing commitment to agricultural support and disaster resilience. He highlighted that during crises, our shared humanity is what guides us. By uniting, we can address these challenges and build a more robust and resilient community.
Under Governor Gambito’s leadership, the PGNV continues to lead these efforts, collaborating closely with the PSWDO and PDRRMO to ensure that aid reaches even the most remote areas, such as Alfonso Castañeda. The El Niño phenomenon has severely affected local agriculture, and it is encouraging to witness such a robust display of support. This relief effort is not only aimed at providing immediate assistance but also at ensuring that farmers can recover and continue to prosper. /jcmb
