The provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya, headed by Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, through the Provincial Agricultural Office under Mr. Absalom Rizal D. Baysa, organized a caravan on August 28, 2024, in Barangay Babadi, Kayapa.
The event marked the establishment of the province-led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension System (PAFES-NV), an initiative aimed to support the agricultural sector in the province.
This caravan is part of the “ONE DA AGENDA,” a strategic framework designed to foster sustainable agricultural programs through a systematic approach. The event was attended by over 200 farmers participating in the orientation led by three key offices focused on agriculture and fisheries, Provincial Agricultural Office, the Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office, and the Provincial Veterinary Services Office.
As part of the caravan’s activities, farmers received various agricultural inputs, including fingerlings for those managing fish ponds, vegetable seedlings for backyard farming, white and yellow corn seeds, and fruit tree seedlings, particularly cacao and coffee. During the distribution, Jhona Dacanay, an agricultural focal person, highlighted that marketing cacao and coffee is not a challenge in Nueva Vizcaya, as it already has a coffee processing center and a strong network through the Nueva Vizcaya Cacao Growers Association, to ensure that local farmers have the means to bring their products to market.
Representing Governor Gambito, Ms. Emerline Jane Galanta-Martinez delivered a message emphasizing the governor’s support to the agricultural sector. She assured the farmers that any requests made to the governor would be acted upon promptly, as agriculture remains a top priority under his administration.
“Governor Gambito believes that farmers are his most effective partners in the development of the province,” Galanta-Martinez stated. “And because you are the most effective partners, we have come to you to make sure you know about the services the government provides for you. The governor wants us to reach out to you directly, which is why we have this caravan.”
She further encouraged the farmers to unite in support of the governor’s vision, saying, “The governor has many dreams for you, and his only wish is for us to unite in achieving them.”
The PAFES-NV caravan is a provincial government’s commitment to empower local farmers in bringing essential services and resources directly to the communities. This initiative is seen as a key component of Governor Gambito’s “Kalsada ti Kabanbantayan” flagship program, which prioritizes the development of infrastructure and agricultural support systems in Nueva Vizcaya. /gpp
