PLGU-Nueva Vizcaya Takes Proactive Measures Against Rising Dengue Cases

In a proactive response to the increasing incidence of dengue fever, the provincial government, led by Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, has initiated a comprehensive dengue eradication program. The Provincial Integrated Health Office (PHO) has begun distributing sprayers and spray concentrates to all 15 municipalities within the province.

During an interview, Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Anthony Cortez , revealed that the provincial government has allocated a budget of 4.5 million pesos for this vital initiative. Each municipality will receive a hundred sprayers and spray concentrates, with the first distribution already completed in the municipality of Diadi. These resources will be provided directly to households, allowing residents to spray their own homes.

The effectiveness of the spray against dengue is reported to last between two weeks to one month. Residents will have the option to obtain additional supplies from their local Rural Health Units as needed for subsequent treatments.

Dr. Cortez emphasized that the decision to distribute the sprayers and concentrates directly to households aims to encourage community participation in the fight against dengue. Although the rise in dengue cases has not yet reached alarming levels, he stated that it is better for the provincial government to take proactive measures to curb the spread of the disease.

Governor Gambito commented on the initiative, stating, “We must meet the problem halfway. By taking proactive steps and providing our communities with the tools they need, we can effectively combat dengue together and ensure the safety and health of our residents. Let us not wait until the situation becomes severe before we take action.”

Currently, the municipality of Bayombong has reported the highest number of dengue cases in the province. In addition to the household distributions, the Provincial Integrated Health Office has expressed its willingness to provide sprayers and spray concentrates to schools upon request. If school personnel are unable to conduct the spraying, sanitary officers from the PHO are ready to assist in carrying out the spraying activities to ensure a safe environment for students, according to Dr.Cortez. /RMI
