PHRMO conducts VAWC orientation

The Provincial Human Resource Management Office (PHRMO) headed by Dr. Ma. Carla Lucia M. Torralba conducted an orientation on the Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Law on March 24, 2025, at the Ammungan Hall, Capitol. The orientation program was attended mostly by the utility workers of the provincial government to raise awareness about the issues of violence against women and children, educating participants on the forms of abuse and its impact on the individuals and society.

Dr. Torralba, one of the facilitators, discussed the definition and scope of VAWC, its causes and consequences, and explained the forms of violence on physical, emotional, sexual, and economic aspects.

Atty. Marielle Bernadette G. Manaig, ADAS II, of the PHRMO gave an overview of Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004), rights of victims and legal protection measures, and the role of government and non-government agencies; while Jesusa P. Dyte, SWO IV of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), gave insights into the signs of abuses, safe and ethical intervention practices, and reporting procedures and referral pathways.

“Maganda ang programang ito at nalaman namin ang tamang procedure sa pag-file ng reklamo at kung saan kami lalapit kapag nakaranas kami ng pang-aabuso sa amin at sa aming mga anak,” remarked one of the participants.

The VAWC orientation program plays a vital role in the prevention, education, empowerment and engagement which may contribute to reducing or eliminating violence against women and children. While VAWC primarily protects women and children, men (as victim of abuses too) can file a complaint or case under the Revised Penal Code, the Civil Code, and the Family Code. /bgl
