PENRO highlights 2024 Achievements

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) , highlights with pride its key achievements for 2024, showcasing its commitment to environmental conservation and protection during the Monday flag raising ceremony at the Carlos M. Padilla Convention Center, Capitol, Bayombong, on February 10, 2025.

Among its major accomplishments is the procurement of fire-fighting equipment worth PHP 698,000 in response to the rising number of forest fires in the province.

Engr. Giovanni M. Magat, disclosed that PENRO successfully apprehended 15,197 forest products and items, which will be secured in a storage facility worth over PHP 2 million. The storage facilities, set to be built in Talbek, Dupax del Sur, and Calitlitan, Aritao, will enhance the agency’s capacity to manage confiscated materials.

As part of its climate change mitigation initiatives, PENRO has also acquired a PHP 2.25 million Automated Weather Station, which will facilitate accurate environmental monitoring. The agency has partnered with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to ensure efficient data collection and analysis.

Further strengthening land ownership rights, the PENRO granted 727 residential free patents or land titles to qualified beneficiaries in Nueva Vizcaya. This includes free sketch plans, easing the process for landowners and ensuring land security for residents.

Recognizing its outstanding efforts, the PENRO-NV was awarded the Most Outstanding Environment and Natural Resources Office in Region 02., expressed optimism that with the support of Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, the agency is on track to qualify for the Hall of Fame Award after receiving the Best PENRO recognition for the second time. Engr. Magat also commended the leadership of Governor Gambito, noting that Nueva Vizcaya remains the only province in Region 02 declared an Ecological Park by the DENR. This breakthrough stresses the province’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development, further strengthening Nueva Vizcaya’s reputation as a model for ecological preservation in the region. /gpp
