The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Nueva Vizcaya, under the leadership of Forester Tito A. Tanguilig, has embarked on the 2nd batch of the project proposal entitled Nueva Vizcaya Teachers CONverge in Strengthening Environmental Education Roles as Venue on Sustainable Development (NVi-CONSERVE).
This initiative, in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature – Philippines (WWF-Philippines), aims to equip educators with knowledge and tools to promote sustainable development through environmental education.School Heads and Supervisors from various schools in the province participated in a two-day training program spearheaded by WWF-Philippines through its Education is Adaptation Teachers Training Program.
This initiative seeks to empower educators to integrate environmental awareness and action into their teaching practices, fostering a generation of environmentally conscious learners. The event featured several engaging and informative sessions, including:
• Climate Conversations: Discussions on the impacts of climate change and actionable solutions.
• Biodiversity Talks: Exploring the importance of preserving the region’s rich biodiversity.
• Climate Change Conversations: Insights into the global and local implications of climate change and how educators can play a pivotal role in adaptation and mitigation efforts.
Participants were also engaged in workshops designed to assess and enhance current environmental education and education for sustainable development (EE/ESD) initiatives and integrate sustainable development concepts into educational practices. Key activities included assessment of current EE/ESD initiatives and education on sustainable development.
This initiative aligns with Governor Jose V. Gambito’s strong commitment to environmental and natural resource conservation. His administration has consistently supported programs and projects that address climate change, promote biodiversity conservation, and encourage sustainable practices among Nueva Vizcaya’s communities.
NVi-CONSERVE represents a collaborative effort between local government and international organizations, showcasing the shared responsibility of addressing environmental challenges, while PENARO remains driving its initiatives that will benefit Nueva Vizcaya’s environment and people. /gpp
