Nueva Vizcaya’s Grand Ammungan Festival (GAF) 2025 proudly unveiled “Habi Vizcaya,” a captivating exhibit celebrating the province’s rich tradition of woven textiles. Held at the Carlos M. Padilla Convention Center, the exhibit was organized under the leadership of Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito and spearheaded by Ms. Marichelle O. Costales of the Provincial Tourism and Culture Office (PTCO). It offered a vibrant display of intricate craftsmanship that reflected the province’s cultural heritage.
“Habi Vizcaya” featured the exceptional work of master weavers from across the province. On display were the Mun-abol of Kasibu; the Abel Ripo representing five Indigenous groups (Kalanguya, Kankana-ey, Ibaloi, Tuwali, and Ayangan); the Aban’s of Bagabag; and the Aruga Handwovens of Dupax del Sur. Each weaving tradition showcased its unique techniques and styles, highlighting the diversity of cultural expression across Nueva Vizcaya.
In April, actress Jodi Sta. Maria visited the municipality of Kasibu, where she experienced firsthand the beauty and artistry of the Mun-abol textiles. “Traditional weaving lies in the heart and hardship put into the process. It is this dedication and effort that makes traditional weaving truly special and valuable,” Sta. Maria remarked.
Each meticulously crafted textile told a story of identity, pride, and legacy woven into every thread. The colors and patterns radiated the unique heritage of each community and the deep cultural meaning behind every piece. More than just an exhibit, “Habi Vizcaya” served as a vibrant celebration of culture and identity.
Governor Gambito, through the PTCO, created a meaningful platform to honor the province’s Indigenous traditions and to inspire attendees to embrace and wear their cultural heritage with pride. The event underscored the role of cultural preservation and the continued recognition of Indigenous artisans whose work carries the spirit of Nueva Vizcaya across generations. #jmcb
