NV-PWDs showcases Talent and Leadership

People with Disabilities (PWDs) from all over the province gathered at the Ammungan Hall on December 6, 2024, to commemorate the International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD) under the theme “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.” The event began with parade, symbolizing unity and resilience, and highlighted the vital role of PWDs in promoting a more inclusive and sustainable society.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), headed by Ms. Flordelina C. Garanda, organized the event with Ms. Marivic V. Salvador facilitated the activities, showcasing the creative talents and entrepreneurial essence of PWDs through competitions and special programs.

A major highlight was the competition featuring nine PWDs vying for the Best Competitor Award. Participants demonstrated their innovative skills in various trades and crafts, emphasizing their ability to contribute meaningfully to the community. These efforts aim to provide PWDs with opportunities for additional or main sources of income, empowering them as integral members of society. The event also introduced the DREAM BIG program, an initiative supporting educational grantees among PWDs. This program highlights the importance of education in breaking barriers and enabling PWDs to achieve their aspirations while contributing to societal progress.

“Education is the foundation of empowerment. Through DREAM BIG, we aim to equip persons with disabilities with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their dreams and become leaders in their communities,” Ms. Salvador said during the launching program on December 9, 2024. Governor Jose V. Gambito, a big support in empowering PWDs has always ensure a truly inclusive and sustainable future, strengthening the voices of persons with disabilities in all aspects of community-building.

The 2024 IDPWD is the province’s commitment to the welfare and empowerment of PWDs and break down barriers that hinder full inclusivity.
