The Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya, under the leadership of Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, has taken a big step towards sustainable energy solutions by procuring 3,000 solar light kits for the remote and mountainous areas in the province where traditional electric services are unavailable, through the “Silaw ti Umili” program.
The program goes beyond lighting homes, it will enhance safety and security, reduce carbon emissions, empower communities, lower energy costs, and improve health by providing reliable and sustainable lighting for homes and healthcare facilities.
In addition to the solar light kits, the provincial government has also acquired nine motorcycles to be used in validating and installing the solar panel kits. The thorough validation process is designed to ensure that resources are allocated efficiently and identify household and communities that will benefit most from the program.
According to Provincial Engineer Jerry A. Tan, the provincial government has allocated approximately P14.8 million for the procurement of the solar panel kits, motorcycles, and other logistical needs.
The “Silaw ti Umili” program is being carried out in partnership with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), OceanaGold, and SN Aboitiz Power-Magat, Inc./cqc
