Nueva Vizcaya gears up for Safe Lenten Season

In preparation for the influx of travelers and religious activities during the upcoming Lenten Season 2025 dubbed “Lakbay Alalay and OPLAN Semana Santa, ”the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) convened a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting on April 8, 2025, at the Paniqui Hall, Patricio G. Dumlao Sr. Executive Building, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

The meeting, spearheaded by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) under the leadership of Mr. Robert L. Corpuz, Vice Chairperson of the Disaster Preparedness Cluster, brought together key agencies and responders to strengthen safety protocols and ensure the province is fully equipped for any emergency situation during the observance of the Holy Week.

Chief Meteorologist Joselito Ramos provided the weather outlook, forecasting generally fair weather conditions but with possibilities of isolated rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the week , a scenario that calls for heightened vigilance among both responders and the public.The Operations and Warning Section of the PDRRMO also presented the risk assessment matrix, outlining potential hazards that may arise from the expected movement of people, particularly in pilgrimage sites, major highways, and other areas of convergence.

Key emergency preparedness and response protocols were presented and discussed by representatives of key agencies, including the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Army Reserve Command (RESCOM), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Provincial Integrated Health Office (PIHO), Provincial DOH Office (PDOHO), Provincial Engineering Office (PEO), Philippine Red Cross, Kabalikat Civicom, and other volunteer groups. Each agency laid out its deployment plans, covering manpower assignments, availability of vehicles, and readiness of equipment to swiftly respond to emergencies.

Governor Atty. Jose “Jing” V. Gambito, known for his positive approach to public safety, extended his full support to these initiatives through the province-wide implementation of Lakbay Alalay and OPLAN Semana Santa. The project aims to provide assistance and safety reminders to motorists, pilgrims, and the general public traveling within Nueva Vizcaya during the Holy Week.

“Our goal is to ensure that the observance of the Lenten Season remains solemn, peaceful, and safe for everyone. Through the cooperation of each responders and the participation of communities, the council believe that the goal is a guaranteed hit as members of the PDRRMC continue to urge the public to remain cautious, heed weather advisories, and report any untoward incidents to authorities promptly.” Corpuz said. /gpp
