In a significant move to honor one of its most esteemed leaders, the Nueva Vizcaya Convention Center, situated within the provincial capitol, will now bear the name Carlos M. Padilla Convention Center. This change follows the unanimous approval of Ordinance No. 246-Series of 2024 by the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during their recent regular session.
The ordinance, authored by Board Member Eunice Galima Gambol and sponsored by Board Member Patricio F. Dumlao, seeks to immortalize the legacy of Carlos M. Padilla, a revered figure in the province, often referred to as the “Legend of the North.”
The Nueva Vizcaya Convention Center, a one-storey building with a mezzanine, covers a footprint of 2,500 square meters and boasts a total area of 3,332 square meters. With a full seating capacity of three to four thousand, it stands as the largest convention center owned by the provincial government.
The establishment of the Convention Center was the brainchild of former Governor Ruth R. Padilla. Over the years, it has undergone significant improvements aimed at enhancing its functionality to better serve the Novo Vizcayanos. Under the present administration of Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, a substantial allocation of PHP 17 million has been dedicated to the construction of a drop-off point, facade, and landscaping, further enhancing the center’s infrastructure and aesthetic appeal.
Governor Gambito shared his thoughts on the renaming, stating, “This is a momentous occasion for all of us in Nueva Vizcaya. The Carlos M. Padilla Convention Center stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of a leader who dedicated his life to the service of our province. It is our hope that this center will continue to inspire and serve our community for generations to come.”
In addition to the renaming of the convention center, a resolution sponsored by Board Member Patricio F. Dumlao was also passed few months ago by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. This resolution, addressed to the House of Representatives through House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, recommends the renaming of the Bayombong-Solano By-Pass Road to Carlos M. Padilla Highway. A similar resolution was also passed by the Sangguniang Bayan of Bayombong, sponsored by SK Federation President Noel John Carlo O. Gines, earnestly recommending to the House of Representatives through Hon. Luisa Lloren Cuaresma the renaming of the Bayombong-Solano By-Pass Road. The construction of the by-pass road was an initiative of then-Congressman Carlos M. Padilla.
The renaming of the center and the proposed renaming of the by-pass road underscore the enduring legacy of Governor Carlos M. Padilla, ensuring that his contributions and dedication to the people of Nueva Vizcaya are fittingly honored. The ordinance emphasizes that naming the Nueva Vizcaya Convention Center as the Carlos M. Padilla Convention Center will serve as a lasting memorial for the people of Nueva Vizcaya, commemorating the dedication and passion for duty of the beloved leader.
As the largest convention center in the province, the newly named Carlos M. Padilla Convention Center will continue to be a hub for various events and gatherings, embodying the spirit and vision of a leader who has left an indelible mark on the community. /RMI
