Nueva Vizcaya has once again proven its commitment to excellence in governance, earning the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Award. Under the forward-thinking leadership of Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, the province has been recognized as one of the top-performing local government units (LGUs) in the country, underscoring its dedication to transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced that Nueva Vizcaya is among the 41 provinces to receive this coveted award, a testament to its outstanding governance practices. The SGLG Award is a national recognition that honors LGUs that meet rigorous criteria across ten critical areas of governance, as mandated by Republic Act No. 11292, the SGLG Act of 2018.
Governor Gambito’s administration has been instrumental in Nueva Vizcaya’s success, focusing on key governance areas that include Financial Administration and Sustainability, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection and Sensitivity, Health Compliance and Responsiveness, and Environmental Management. The province’s strategic initiatives in these areas have not only met but exceeded the standards set forth by the SGLG criteria.
In addition to the province’s achievements, six municipalities within Nueva Vizcaya—Aritao, Kasibu, Solano, Kayapa, Ambaguio, and Villaverde—are also set to receive the SGLG Award. This collective success highlights the cohesive and collaborative efforts of local leaders under Governor Gambito’s guidance, fostering an environment where good governance practices thrive.
Governor Gambito’s leadership is distinguished by an innovative, “out-of-the-box” style of governance that not only addresses the present needs of the citizens but also anticipates future challenges. His administration emphasizes sustainable education, business-friendliness, competitiveness, and cultural heritage preservation. By adopting forward-thinking strategies, Nueva Vizcaya has solidified its reputation as a model province, adeptly adapting to the evolving demands of its people.
Reflecting on this achievement, Governor Gambito stated, “Good governance is not just about meeting standards; it’s about setting them. In Nueva Vizcaya, we strive to create a legacy of integrity and progress that will benefit generations to come.” He also expressed his gratitude to his fellow provincial elected officials, department heads, and employees of the capitol, whom he fondly calls his “teammates” in the provincial government. “This award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team. Together, we have provided exemplary service to our people, and I am deeply thankful for their unwavering commitment,” he added. /RMI
