PCAT-VAWC Conducts Field Visitation and Monitoring of Videoke Clubs in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya

As part of the proactive approach of the provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya under the leadership of Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, the Provincial Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Children (PCAT-VAWC) recently conducted field visitation and monitoring of various videoke clubs in the town of Bambang, particularly along the highway in the areas covered by Barangay San Antonio North and Almaguer South, near the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal (NVAT).

The activity aimed to ensure that no minors or individuals below 18 years old are employed in these establishments, and to remind owners and operators that allowing minors to enter or work in such businesses is strictly prohibited by law. During the inspection, the team also posted stickers on the establishments with reminders that minors are not allowed inside.

According to Susan P. Dyte, Social Welfare Officer IV of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), this inspection will not only be conducted in Bambang but will also extend to other towns in the province where similar businesses operate.Other members of the PCAT-VAWC, including representatives from faith-based organizations and the VAWC desk of the local police, joined the field inspection to ensure comprehensive monitoring and enforcement of laws protecting women and children.

So far, none of the videoke club operators were found to be employing minors. According to the operators, the owners of the stalls they rent for their videoke clubs strictly remind them that hiring or allowing minors in their businesses is absolutely prohibited.The PCAT-VAWC is a provincial-level committee responsible for addressing and preventing human trafficking and violence against women and children within the province.

Recently, the province of Nueva Vizcaya was recognized for its outstanding performance after achieving a 110% overall rating and being declared “Highly Functional” in the recent Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Children (LCAT-VAWC) Functionality Assessment for Performance Year 2024. /RMI
