Governor Gambito Opens 16th Grand Ammungan Festival, Expresses Gratitude to Organizers and LGUs

Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito led the formal opening of the 16th Grand Ammungan Festival today, May 22, kicking off a vibrant three-day celebration marking the 186th founding anniversary of Nueva Vizcaya.

The festivities began with a Thanksgiving and Ecumenical Service at the CMP Convention Center, officiated by leaders from various religious sects. The opening program drew a large audience, including provincial officials, municipal and barangay leaders, and special guests.

In his speech, Governor Gambito extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Executive Committee headed by Provincial Tourism Officer and this year’s Festival Director General Marichelle O. Costales, as well as to all working committees who dedicated their efforts to ensure the smooth and successful execution of the festival’s diverse activities. He also thanked the mayors of Nueva Vizcaya for their strong support and active involvement in the Ammungan Festival.

“I deeply appreciate the hard work and commitment of our organizing teams and the all-out support of our local government units. Because of your collective efforts, we are able to showcase the unity and rich culture of Nueva Vizcaya,” said Governor Gambito.

Governor Gambito also shared that he introduced several innovations this year, including increased subsidies for local government units and bigger prizes for the various competitions. These measures aim to further encourage participation and elevate the quality of the festival’s events.

Among the dignitaries present was Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 2 Regional Director Troy Alexander G. Miano, who commended the province for its meaningful and colorful celebration. “Now I know why this Ammungan Festival is successful. First, because you put God first. I am amazed at how the interfaith blessings and ritual were smoothly done. Second, you have the blessings of your provincial leaders,” Miano said.

Director Miano also highlighted Nueva Vizcaya’s transformation over the years. “I am a living witness to how this great province metamorphosed from a sleepy province in the Caraballo to a vibrant province in this northern part of Luzon,” he remarked.

He further mentioned ongoing discussions between DOT Region 2 and DOT-CAR for the reopening of Bagabag Airport, which is expected to strengthen tourism not only in Nueva Vizcaya but also in the neighboring regions. “Nueva Vizcaya will be the first to benefit once Bagabag Airport becomes operational again. This will be a good inter-regional tourism hub,” Miano noted, and pledged to continue supporting the province’s tourism programs, including the expansion of the Filipino Brand of Excellence trainings to the barangay level.

Following the opening program, ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held for the Gawang Vizcayano Exhibit and Trade Fair, as well as the Nueva Vizcaya Travel and Tourism Expo, further showcasing the province’s local products, culture, and tourism potential. /RMI
