Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito expressed deep pride and gratitude as Nueva Vizcaya was officially declared the “Ginger Capital of the Philippines” by the Department of Agriculture, emphasizing that the recognition honors the dedication and resilience of the province’s farmers.
“This recognition is not just a victory for our province, but a triumph for every Novo Vizcayano farmer who tirelessly works in their fields. It shows that the diligence, perseverance, and unity of our communities truly bear fruit. We will continue to provide support and opportunities to further develop the ginger industry in Nueva Vizcaya, and to ensure that our farmers achieve even greater progress,” Governor Gambito said.
The declaration was formalized through Administrative Order No. 8, series of 2025, signed by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel. The order highlights Nueva Vizcaya’s vital role as the country’s top ginger producer, supplying not only local markets but also major regions in Luzon, including Metro Manila.
In 2024, Nueva Vizcaya solidified its leadership in ginger production by facilitating the trade of 14,753.51 metric tons of ginger. The province ranked first nationwide, with a total output of 7,140.76 metric tons. Approximately 5,010 ginger growers cultivate 862.82 hectares across the province, achieving an impressive average yield of 7.42 metric tons per hectare.
With this recognition from the Department of Agriculture, stakeholders expect further growth in Nueva Vizcaya’s agricultural sector and increased investment in ginger farming and agribusiness. /RMI
