Nueva Vizcaya Disaster Cluster gears up for 2025 elections

The Disaster Preparedness and Response Cluster of the Nueva Vizcaya Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NVDRRMC) convened on May 7, 2025, at the Paniqui Hall, Patricio G. Dumlao Sr. Executive Building, Capitol, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya to conduct a pre-disaster risk assessment in preparation for the 2025 national and local elections.

The meeting presided by Mr. Robert L. Corpuz, PDRRM Officer and Vice Chairperson of the cluster focused on weather forecasts, deployment strategies, resource availability, and agency concerned readiness to ensure safe and orderly elections of the province.

According to the PDRRMO, the province is on full alert, with continuous coordination among concerned agencies. The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a generally peaceful situation so far and confirmed that deployment plans to barangays and voting precincts are underway. The PNP will also secure the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) offices, provincial and municipal treasury offices, PNP stations, and regional border control checkpoints. Police resources such as mobile vehicles, firearms, and radio communications are on standby.

Weather updates from PAGASA highlighted partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and a forecasted heat index reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on election day—conditions that may affect voter turnout and health.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) confirmed that all COMELEC offices have complied with fire safety requirements, including the installation of firefighting equipment and proper exit routes. Fire safety inspections of polling precincts are scheduled from May 9 to 13, with personnel and resources on full alert.

Moreover, the Provincial Integrated Health Office (PIHO) assured the public of compliance with Department of Health (DOH) guidelines on emergency preparedness. Rural Health Units (RHUs) are ready for deployment in emergency cases, with the Provincial DOH Office (PDOHO) mobilizing doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, midwives, medical technologists, and more importantly-essential medicines.

The PDRRMO emphasized its 24/7 readiness and ongoing coordination with COMELEC, PNP, BFP, DOH, and PAGASA as part of its contingency and operational plans.

Under his leadership, Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito reaffirmed support for the PDRRMO’s programs and initiatives ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently for risk reduction measures. His administration continues to champion collaborative efforts with concerned agencies and local communities to enhance Nueva Vizcaya’s disaster resilience. #gpp
