Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito congratulates Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office Nueva Vizcaya (PENRO-NV)) for its achievements in 2024 and expressed gratitude for its support to the province of Nueva Vizcaya and its people. The Governor particularly recognized the leadership of PENRO Engr. Giovanni M. Magat, emphasizing DENR’s role as the sole agency defending the Provincial Government in the ongoing boundary dispute over Barangay Malico in Santa Fe, Nueva Vizcaya, against claims from Pangasinan.
“I am deeply thankful to PENRO, under the leadership of Engr. Giovanni M. Magat, dahil sila lamang ang natatanging ahensiya na nakikipaglaban ng ating claim sa issue ng Malico, Santa Fe, Nueva Vizcaya boundary disputes against Pangasinan,” Governor Gambito said.
Reaffirming Nueva Vizcaya’s rightful jurisdiction over Malico, Gov. Gambito disclosed that there is no longer any valid dispute regarding the area.
“I believe there is no dispute na dapat pang pagtalunan. For all intent and purposes, sa batas, ang Malico ay part and parcel ng Nueva Vizcaya. The lingering issue of boundary dispute between Barangay Malico in Santa Fe and San Nicolas, Pangasinan is ‘fait accompli,’” he declared.
The boundary dispute has been a long-standing issue between Nueva Vizcaya and Pangasinan, particularly over Barangay Malico, a highland community known for its rich history and tourism potential. Despite counterclaims, Governor Gambito remains firm that legal and historical evidence strongly favors Nueva Vizcaya’s jurisdiction.
With PENRO’s continuous support, the Provincial Government remains steadfast in upholding Nueva Vizcaya’s territorial rights while ensuring workable environment. /gpp
