Nueva Vizcaya Celebrated Nationally for Excellence in Infrastructure Development

The province of Nueva Vizcaya, under the dynamic leadership of Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, has once again risen to national prominence by securing a spot among the Top Ten Local Government Units (LGUs) in the Philippines. This prestigious recognition, awarded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) through the SubayBayani Awards, highlights the province’s exceptional performance in implementing infrastructure projects that drive community progress.

The honor was proudly accepted by Engr. Edgardo Sabado, head of the Provincial Planning and Development Office, on behalf of Governor Gambito during a ceremony held on December 4 at the Sequoia Hotel Manila Bay, Parañaque City. Accompanying him were Provincial Administrator Jovito O. Celestino and Engr. Cesar Sententa, highlighting the dedicated team effort behind Nueva Vizcaya’s achievements.

Governor Gambito expressed his gratitude and pride regarding the award, stating, “I am truly honored that our efforts are being recognized by the national government. However, what brings me even greater joy is knowing that these projects are genuinely benefiting our citizens. My ultimate goal is for every Vizcayano to feel the care and dedication of a government that is truly committed to their well-being.”

Nueva Vizcaya’s recognition underscores its steadfast commitment to quality governance and impactful project execution, directly benefiting its citizens. Out of 104 local government units that underwent rigorous national validation, 40 provinces were distinguished with the LGU Exemplar award, with Nueva Vizcaya emerging as a standout among the top ten.

The SubayBayani Awards , a flagship initiative by the DILG, honors LGUs that exemplify outstanding infrastructure governance, emphasizing the crucial role of local governments in fostering community transformation through efficient project implementation and monitoring. Supported by the SubayBayan online platform, the program ensures transparency and accountability in governance.

Nueva Vizcaya’s entry for the recognition was the CVR Masoc Ambaguio Road upgrade, a transformative project that has drastically reduced travel time and boosted economic activities, particularly in agriculture and tourism. Completed in 2019 with a PhP 95 million budget from the DILG’s Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (CMGP), the 22.92-kilometer road was initiated during the tenure of the late Governor Carlos M. Padilla. This strategic infrastructure has not only facilitated the movement of goods but also positioned Ambaguio as a premier paragliding destination, enhancing its appeal to tourists.

The project was rigorously assessed based on its timeliness in adhering to planned schedules, completeness in delivering all project details, accuracy in data provision and reporting, and quality in maintaining high standards throughout implementation. /RMI
