Governor Gambito Leads Call for Enhanced Traffic Management Amid Nueva Vizcaya Roadworks

In response to escalating public frustration over severe traffic congestion, the Provincial Development Council (PDC) of Nueva Vizcaya, chaired by Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito has passed a resolution calling on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 2. The resolution requests that contractors overseeing road projects implement comprehensive traffic management strategies to alleviate congestion along the province’s national highways.

This move by the provincial government comes amid widespread complaints about traffic jams caused by concurrent road construction activities, particularly affecting the winding roads of Bagabag, Diadi, and Sta. Fe. The lack of effective traffic management in these areas has exacerbated the situation, leading to significant delays and inconvenience for motorists.

Governor Gambito emphasized the urgent need for improved traffic control measures, noting that the current situation has led to prolonged traffic jams, causing discomfort for travelers and economic losses for local businesses. “Effective traffic management is crucial to ensure the safety and convenience of our motorists and to support the economic vitality of our region,” he stated.

At present, the DPWH is undertaking 38 road reblocking and widening projects, spanning 39.24 kilometers and valued at PHP 1.3 billion along the 100-kilometer stretch of the Maharlika Highway that traverses the province. These projects are essential for infrastructure development but have also highlighted the need for better coordination and management to minimize disruption.

The PDC’s resolution aims to ensure that traffic management becomes a priority for contractors, thereby enhancing road safety and reducing travel times for the public.
