GO-PDAD’s impactful initiatives bared at FRC

During the flag-raising ceremony (FRC) on July 1, 2024, the Governor’s Office-Persons with Disability Affairs Division (GO-PDAD) headed by Ms. Venus R. Cadabona, represented by Ms. Christine S. Carnate, reported its achievements highlighting the impactful initiatives undertaken in 2023 and the significant milestones reached in the 1st and 2nd quarters of the current year.

In 2023, GO-PDAD spearheaded a series of initiatives that exemplified a commitment to empowering persons with disabilities (PWDs) and fostering inclusivity within the community. Key accomplishments included the conduct of Down Syndrome Consciousness Month where financial aid and essential supplies were given to 45 Special Education (SPED) students, promoting awareness and support for individuals with Down Syndrome; distribution of grocery packs to qualified PWDs in collaboration with DSWD Region 2A; awarding of pedia wheelchairs; provision of technical assistance on disability rights; and the conduct of training on Basic Filipino Sign Language, enhancing accessibility and understanding for PWDs; and the development of a comprehensive 3-year Sectoral Plan to guide future initiatives and ensure sustainable impact for PWDs, among others.

In the 1st and 2nd quarters of 2024, GO-PDAD’s key accomplishments included the IT Challenge Provincial Level engaging six schools in a technology challenge, promoting innovation and skills development among PWD learners; Prosthesis Measurement and Hearing Aid Assessment where a 3-day assessment for 395 PWDs and senior citizens was conducted, ensuring access to essential assistive devices.

They also conducted Skills Enhancement Training, providing training opportunities for PWD focal persons and stakeholders, enhancing knowledge and capacity in disability support. Monitoring and evaluation of MLGU compliance was also done, ensuring adherence to disability regulations and standards, and promoting inclusivity and accessibility.

As of June 2024, the GO-PDAD has identified 11,199 PWDs in the province, reflecting the growing need for continued support and advocacy for PWDs.
