NVHS holds congress after a 2-year lull

The Nueva Vizcaya Historical Society (NVHS), in partnership with the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV) through its Provincial Tourism and Culture Office (PTCO), conducted the 4th Nueva Vizcaya Historical Congress on August 29, 2022 at the Sacred Heart Center of Saint Mary’s University, Bayombong. 

This came after a two-year postponement due to restrictions brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Participating therein were around 80 leaders and representatives from provincial and municipal government offices, Basic and Higher Education Institutions, and Non-Government Organizations. 

The main topics covered by the Congress, which were separately presented in five consecutive sessions, revolved around the theme, “Nueva Vizcaya Historic Treasure: The Past that Established the Present”.

Leading the resource persons was Governor Carlos M. Padilla who spoke about Historic Events in the Nueva Vizcaya Government from its establishment to the present.

The other studies tackled in the ensuing sessions were: Nueva Vizcaya Atlas – Historic Events on Land Boundaries of Nueva Vizcaya by Engr. Edgardo D. Sabado, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator; People of Nueva Vizcaya by Dr. Bonifacio A. Ramos, NVHS President (2017-2019); Historic events in Nueva Vizcaya’s Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Industry by Engr. Giovannie M. Magat, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer, DENR; and Writing Historical Accounts by Mr. Joseph Phillip A. Addauan, Jr., Instructor, Philippine Science High School Cagayan Valley Campus.

The whole afternoon was devoted mainly to 10-minute presentations of other papers on the geography of Nueva Vizcaya, and the culture and traditions of its people.

Dr. Arnold D. Pitpitunge, NVHS President (2019-present) said that the annual Congresses and other activities being collaboratively conducted by the NVHS with its partners aim to help address, among others, the objectives of the group, viz: Promotion of education, information, and appreciation of the Province’s rich history, culture and arts.

He thanked the PGNV and the PTCO for their financial support and coordination efforts that led to the successful and productive holding of the day’s event.
