Governor Gambito Urges Scholars to Study Hard and Make Their Parents Proud

“Make your provincial government proud, and make your parents proud. Dedicate yourselves to your studies and ensure you complete your education. This achievement will not only be a personal milestone but also the greatest triumph for your parents,” Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito passionately addressed the 75 freshmen students from Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) during the Sagut Scholars Orientation and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing held at the Nueva Vizcaya Convention Center.

The governor emphasized that the government is doing everything possible to prepare the province for the young generation, expressing hope that the youth would also prepare themselves to become the province’s future leaders.

The event marked a significant day for the 6th batch of scholars under the SAGUT Scholarship Program, not only as an orientation but also as the ceremonial awarding of their August to November stipends and book/uniform allowances totaling P22,500. The provincial government views this program not as an expense, but as a strategic investment in the future leaders of the province.

The SAGUT Scholarship Program, conceived during the late Governor Carlos M Padilla’s administration, aims to support poor but deserving students, particularly children of solo parents, displaced overseas Filipino workers, rebel returnees, persons with disabilities, and orphans, among others.

The program, which started with 15 scholars in 2017, has grown to support 75 scholars in 2018 and every year thereafter, maintaining a total of 300 scholars with an annual allocation of P20 million. This consistent investment reflects the government’s belief in the transformative power of education and its role in empowering the youth.

The orientation event also recognized the achievements of Sagut Scholars Batch 2 graduates who garnered Latin awards during their graduation last May, as well as past scholars who recently passed their licensure examinations.

In response to the recognition, Ms. Cherry Anne B. Anchos, a Sagut Batch 2 Magna Cum Laude, thanked the provincial government for the scholarship program, which she described as a family of young individuals aspiring to achieve their dreams.

Francesca Erika Umakam, who recently passed the Geodetic Engineer Licensure Examination, echoed this sentiment, stating that the Sagut Scholarship Program is not only an academic endeavor but also a journey to self-discovery, resilience, and growth.

“I can attest to the impact this program has on shaping not just careers but lives. It instills in you a sense of responsibility, a passion for duty, and a deep understanding of the power to make a positive impact on the world,” she said.

The event also served as a platform for the provincial government to reaffirm its commitment to the youth. By investing in programs like SAGUT, the government is nurturing a generation of leaders who are not only academically proficient but also socially responsible, resilient, and ready to make a positive impact on the world.

The program was also graced by Board Members Patricio F Dumlao Jr and Elma Pinao a Lejao, authors of the Sagut Scholarship Ordinance in the Sanggunian Panlalawigan, Dr. Carlo F. Vadil, Vice Pres for Planning Development and Information Systems of NVSU, Mr. Ramir Honggo, NVSU Registrar, Engr. Maria Jonem P. Gacad, Assistant Provincial Planning and Development officer, Dr. Blesila R. Ramos, president of Practioner and Advocates of Rural Development Scholar(PARDS), and Ptr Roger Angyab, the spiritual adviser of the Sagut Scholars. /rmi
