PGNV fetes Dr. Guerrero, fellow volunteers

The members of the Chicago Nightingale Association and Alpha Sigma Fraternity led by Dr. Christopher M. Guerrero who are on a medical mission in the Municipalities of Dupax Del Sur and Diadi were honored during a Welcome Dinner tendered by the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV) on February 10, 2023 at the Nueva Vizcaya Convention Center, Provincial Capitol.

Dr. Guerrero, a USA-based medical practitioner who hails from Brgy. San Nicolas, Bayombong, has been spearheading medical outreach projects in different parts of the globe, including his home province, Nueva Vizcaya, since 1997.

For his humanitarian efforts, Dr. Guerrero became the first Pilipino-American to be conferred the Excellence in Medicine Award (EMA) by the American Medical Association (AMA), the largest physicians’ group in the USA which seeks “to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health”.

The EMA is accorded to medical practitioners who “exemplify the highest values of altruism, compassion, leadership, and dedication to patient care”. It is considered the equivalent of the USA’s Medical Excellence Award given to outstanding medical practitioners from around the world.

The other major awards he received include the Medicine Award from the Chicago-Midwest Pilipino-American Community, the Faculty-Mentorship Award on Student Leadership from the University of Illinois’ College of Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Humanitarian Award “for extraordinary and enduring humanitarian efforts both within and beyond the borders of the USA”, among others.

In his speech, Dr. Guerrero said that in all the medical missions and other altruistic endeavors that he engaged himself in, he was guided by VIP, which stands for Vision, Integrity, and Passion, and the time-honored principles of “the more you give, the more you receive”, and “knowing how to look back from where you came from”.

BM Patricio F. Dumlao, Jr., Floor Leader of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, BM Samuel G. Balinhawang, Provincial Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative, and Provincial Administrator Maybelle Dumlao Sevillena led the officers and staff of the PGNV in extending a warm welcome to the medical mission volunteers and the giving of tokens to each one of them.

BM Dumlao expressed the province’s shared appreciation and gratitude for the continuing provision of medical services by the group which, he said, has been of great help to the local government’s constituents, especially the underprivileged.

Spicing up the night’s activity were the intermission numbers rendered by Ms. Rhoda Lea Puguon-Gray and the Ari-Tau Folkloric Society.
