NV finalizes preparations for Undas2022

Governor Carlos M. Padilla convened the composite Disaster Preparedness and Response Cluster (DPRC) of the multi-agency Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) for a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting on October 27, 2022 at the Main Conference Hall, Executive Bldg., Provincial Capitol.

The emergency meeting was called for the purpose of tackling issues and concerns and finalizing individual and collective preparations of member agencies and institutions, or the province at large, vis-a-vis the upcoming “Undas”, given the possible adverse impacts of expected weather disturbances, like incoming Tropical Storm “Paeng” (Nalgae), and the usual influx of people who will be paying homage to their departed relatives and friends.

The PDRRMC Cluster took cognizance of the latest geohazard advisory from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (MGB-DENR) listing several barangays of the municipalities of Diadi, Quezon, and Kasibu as having “Moderate to Very High Flooding and Landslide Susceptibility” ratings. It further states that additional listing of areas susceptible to Flood and Landslide will be sent to the Governor’s Office as soon as the DOST-PAGASA sends its updated forecast rainfall data.

The group then identified proactive measures, along with the appropriate responses to anticipated vehicular accidents, flooding, rain-induced landslides, and other hazards that may be compounded by possible peace and order issues, health emergencies (e.g., COVID-19), ongoing road construction and maintenance, high volume of traffic, and earthquake whose occurrences increased just recently.

All the Cluster members reported about their readiness in regard to their respective roles and responsibilities.

Mr. Robert L. Corpuz, head of the Provincial Government’s focal office, PDRRMO, said that they will be on 24/7 alert mode and ready to respond with their personnel and volunteers, in close coordination with concerned MDRRMOs and other partners.

Also participating in the meeting were print, broadcast, and social media practitioners, as they are expected to play a major part in the concerted efforts of making the general public more aware, prepared, and vigilant for their own safety.
