PLGU extends assistance to hog growers

The provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya has already extended some P5.4 million cash assistance to affected hog growers in the province as counterpart for the culled pigs due to African Swine Fever (ASF) since its first outbreak in March 2020.

According to Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Christopher G. Seraspi, a total of 2,909 pigs were culled within 12 municipalities in the province except Bambang, Dupax Del Sur and Alfonso Castaneda where no ASF cases were reported.

Seraspi also added that despite the fast spread of the ASF virus in the last quarter of 2020, the Provincial Veterinary Services Office (PVSO) continues to monitor affected areas within 500 meter radius for disinfection and testing outside the 500 meter radius for possible outbreak.

A total of 471 hog growers were affected but were able to avail of the financial assistance from the Provincial Government.Seraspi also added that the Department of Agriculture (DA) will also provide cash assistance of P5,000 for each culled pig but with a maximum claim of 20 heads only. #krizel
