The Provincial Veterinary Services Office (PVSO) headed by Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Patricio H. Moreno reported its accomplishments and ongoing programs during the regular flag-raising ceremony on June 15, 2026 at the People’s Stage, Capitol, Bayombong.
According to Dr. Moreno, PVSO continuous the implementation of vaccination, deworming and disease surveillance activities of livestock throughout the province. “Despite the implementation of the four-day work week schedule, the office has adopted effective working strategies to ensure that major veterinary services and activities remain uninterrupted,” Moreno said.
As part of the preventive measure against forecasted El Niño phenomenon, the office has been recommending and providing vitamins to livestock raisers to maintain animal health and productivity during periods of extreme heat.
In the disease surveillance, African Swine Fever (ASF) has remained a top priority. The office reported significant reduction in ASF cases in 2025, with only 25 confirmed cases recorded province wide. As of 2026, a total of 23 confirmed cases has been documented in the municipalities of Kasibu, Bayombong and Villaverde. Through prompt monitoring, surveillance, and containment measures, the disease has been successfully prevented from spreading to other municipalities.
PVSO also announced that there are no confirmed cases of Avian Influenza disease in the province reflecting the effectiveness of ongoing monitoring efforts.
In partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA), the office further highlighted various livestock development programs implemented under the population upgrading program. Several municipalities received breeder animals to improve livestock genetics and increase local production. The municipalities of Diadi and Quezon received 10 million worth of feeds and veterinary supplies to support livestock farmers and strengthen animal production in their respective areas.
PVSO received ₱300,000 worth of artificial insemination supplies to enhance breeding services and improve the quality of livestock in the province. The office also acquired 1000 vials of anti-rabies vaccines as part of its commitment to rabies prevention and responsible pet ownership. In addition, the office also received ₱60, 000 worth of spraying and nutrient kits that will be utilized in various veterinary livestock health programs.
Earlier this year, the provincial government under the leadership of Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, dispersed 40 heads of cattle to tobacco farmers in Sta. Lucia and Villa Coloma Bagabag aimed to provide additional livelihood opportunities among farmer-beneficiaries.
Through its continuous animal health services, disease prevention programs, and livestock development initiatives, the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV), through the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVSO), remains committed to safeguarding the province’s livestock industry and improved the welfare of farmers and animal raisers throughout Nueva Vizcaya. /ctu
