Provincial Engineering Maintains Provincial Infrastructure

The Provincial Engineering Office (PEO), led by Provincial Engineer Jerry A. Tan, conducted the Flag Raising ceremony on March 23, 2026, at the Nueva Vizcaya Peoples’ Stage, Capitol Compound, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. Engineer Tan extolled the accomplishments of the PEO from 2025 to the present, with the office having been instrumental in the back-to-back achievement of the Subaybayani Award for Nueva Vizcaya.

The PEO maintains an office staff of over 130 permanent, casual, and contract of service employees, as well as 83 project-based supervisors and 382 laborers for the arduous construction and maintenance of major infrastructure projects all over the province. Projects under their mandates include road concreting and improvements, provincial bridge construction and widening, as well as the routine maintenance tasks of vegetation control and road repairs across 45 provincial roads. Periodic maintenance was also conducted on 51 road sections, with the use of provincial government-owned equipment.

Despite setbacks of non-compliance handicapping at least 17 infrastructure projects and with at least one set for termination, the PEO counted nine projects seen to completion. Some works are of the Governor’s flagship project ‘Kalsada ti Kabanbantayan’, to which the assistance of the PEO was paramount in answering requests from barangay government units – often requests for heavy equipment use in the improvement of farm-to-market roads, with seven more projects in progress under this flagship project. The PEO is also the contributing party for the Governor’s ‘Silaw ti Umili’ project, fitting 3756 households in far-flung areas with solar kits, out of 8091 households so far validated to be beneficiaries.

The monitoring and quality control division earned 1.35 million in revenue from their laboratory tests for government and private sector projects alike, considered ‘vital in quality assurance’. The PEO also demonstrated their accountability through their bookkeeping, attributing each project and amount to specific fund sources and partnerships.

It is with this steadfast commitment to accountability and transparency that the provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya netted the coveted Subaybayani Award in 2024 and 2025, ranking in the national top 10 for infrastructure.

The essential works provided by the PEO may yet continue to gain accolades for the province. Engineer Tan concluded his speech with a renewed vow to continue the PEO’s current path of accountable and transparent service in the improvement to the quality of life in Nueva Vizcaya. /igmb
