The Provincial Integrated Health Office (PIHO), led by Dr. Anthony F. Cortez, presented its latest report during the regular flag raising ceremony on June 22, at Provincial Capitol, Bayombong, fulfilling its mandate under the Universal Health Care Law and Local Government Code.
Dr. Florijean G. Albano, Assistant Provincial Health Officer, in her report, explained that the PIHO ensures accountability in all health-related services with the support of the community. She noted that PIHO serves as the main coordinating body for all health programs across the province, provides direct medical care, and oversees the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of all health initiatives. She added that the office regularly monitors the 15 Rural Health Units in the province and hospitals managed by the provincial government to ensure quality service delivery.
PIHO also attended to thousands of clients, issuing 1,066 medical certifications and handling 4,028 consultations for employees and their dependents, while also providing 291 dental services, 5,265 animal bite treatments, 14,016 laboratory tests, 3,188 drug tests, and 3,732 water bacteriology examinations; it also facilitated 17 vaccinations and 15 patient referrals.
“We are very happy to report that dengue cases dropped greatly from 4,699 in 2024 to only 1,659 now,” Dr. Albano stated. “This is thanks to everyone’s support in our awareness campaigns.” She added that teenage pregnancy slightly decreased, with only one maternal death recorded.
Under the YAKAP program, 348 patients are registered and 813 clients assisted. The Governor’s Wellness Ti Umili served all 15 towns, while Dara Ti Umili responded to 291 blood assistance requests.
“The PIHO maintained 100% delivery of its main services which include medical, dental, animal bite, and laboratory work,” Dr. Albano emphasized. “This shows PIHO are doing its job well for the people.”
They also received recognitions including the Universal Health Care Implementors Award, PhilHealth YAKAP Champion, and the Most Functional Office award from the PHRMO.
