The provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the Public Affairs and Information Assistance Division of the Governor’s Office (GO-PAIAD), and the Provincial Information Agency (PIA) Nueva Vizcaya, participated in Nueva Vizcaya State University’s (NVSU) Stakeholders’ Consultation, in aid of their endeavor to build the first Development Communication (DevCom) course to be offered in any higher education institution (HEI) in the province.
Among the attendees were representatives from local government units, 22 national agencies including the Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Agriculture (DA), National Irrigation Administration (NIA), etc., and neighboring HEIs such as Isabela State University, Benguet State University, Central Luzon State University, and University of the Philippines Los Baños, among others. University President Wilfredo Dumale expressed his gratitude to the numerous stakeholders in attendance.
The consultation would consist of several overview lectures on DevCom as a course and its potential applications to the various industries within the province. Through these lectures, NVSU showcased their future plans and prospects, highlighting their forthcoming preparation and the zeal with which they will raise a new generation of DevCom students. In an earlier speech, President Dumale confirmed their intention to restore NVSU’s then-defunct radio station, alongside other beneficial projects.
The lectures ended with an open forum during which the participants contributed insights from past experiences, suggestions for the syllabus which included innovative subjects, and eventual employment opportunities. PIA-NV Manager Ben Moses Ebreo was first to offer internships to future DevCom students, highlighting the necessary connection between government and the private sector in providing learning opportunities in preparation for employment.
With participation in such events being crucial to sustaining good working relationships between the provincial government and the academic sector, the PGNV continues to affirm this connection and invest in the youth of Nueva Vizcaya by engaging in such consultations and offering future opportunities. /igmb
