Employees from various offices and hospitals of the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV) participated in a comprehensive Gender Sensitivity Training held on March 30, 2026 at the Nueva Vizcaya Livelihood and Pasalubong Center, Magsaysay, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. The training, sponsored by the Provincial Human Resource Management office (PHRMO), aimed to increase awareness and foster a common understanding of Gender and Development (GAD) principles among PGNV personnel.
The training was facilitated by Ms. Cristina S. Gurat, Training Specialist IV from the Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center, who guided the participants through a series of engaging sessions.
It covered a range of essential topics, including: Sex and gender roles, Sources of Gender issues, Sources of gender beliefs, Manifestations of Gender bias, and the crucial distinction between Gender Equality and Gender Equity. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, participants explored the complexities of gender dynamics and their impact on both personal and professional lives.
Key learning points resonated deeply with the participants. The training emphasized that gender issues are personal, not theoretical. It highlighted that meaningful change begins with self-awareness and that respect must be demonstrated through daily actions. Participants also recognized the interconnections of home and work, acknowledging that behaviors and attitudes displayed at home often reflect in the workplace.
A particularly impactful message was the emphasis on achieving gender equity, not just equality. “Our goal is not just equality, but equity – so that everyone has a fair chance to succeed”.
Adding another layer of crucial information, PHRMO Dr. Ma. Carla Lucia M. Torralba presented on the critical topic of Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC), raising awareness about the prevalence and impact of VAWC and empowering participants to recognize and respond to such situations.
The training culminated with the presentation of Certificates of Completion to each participant, signifying their commitment to promoting gender sensitivity and fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment within the PGNV.
The PHRMO’s initiative reinforces Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito’s commitment to a workplace where every employee feels valued and respected. /mvs
