The Provincial Solid Waste Management Board (PSWMB) and its Technical Working Group, under the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENARO), convened for its 2nd Quarter Regular Meeting on June 25, 2026, at the NV Livelihood and Pasalubong Center. The meeting presided by For. Arlene S. Tarranco, Acting Enro and Co-Chairperson of the Provincial Environmental Awareness and Education Team (PEAET).

One of the topics discussed was the accomplishment report of the Environment and Mineral Resources Division of PENARO. The unit hosted several Environmental Events, such as Zero Waste Management, Earth Day Celebration, and Environmental Month Celebration. They also hosted Environmental Management Trainings, such as Waste Processing and Recycling Training. For the equipment acquisition, upgrading and maintenance program, the Environmental Management Section (EMS) is maintaining and operating four facilities which are Provincial Ecological Center (PEC), Residual Containment Area (RCA), Temporary Hazardous Waste Facility (THW), and the Vermi Composting Facility (VCF).

Under their Monitoring and Evaluation Programs, 12 out of 16 facilities assessed have functional Material Recovery Facilities (MRF), and 8 out of 16 facilities assessed have functional Vermi Composting Facilities (VCF). For the Bida Kid Project, the distribution of waste bins to schools, 37 out of 52 facilities assessed were functional and operational.

For their Information and Education Campaigns, they have conducted the Linis Colocol Irrigation System, and the RA 9003 and Provincial Plastic Ordinance. These notable accomplishments highlighted the groups efforts in maintaining cleanliness and safety of the environment and areas in the province.

Another matter that was presented was the proposal of the Philippine League of Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PLLENRO) Resolution No.1 Series of 2026, a resolution requesting the DENR for the continued operation of existing municipality Sanitary Landfill Facilities (SLFs) located within forest lands in the province. Approval of said resolution would help much in maintaining the safety and proper disposal of waste in the province.

The discussions and the participation of the members of the PSWMB and its TWG, the sharing of ideas and opinions of each members shows their continuous efforts and dedication in protecting and conserving our environment. /akagb
