PENARO highlights advocacy and culture in ‘Sayawit’

The spirit of environmental advocacy and cultural pride took center stage during the “Sayawit Para Sa Kalikasan” Culminating Activity held at Carlos M. Padilla Convention Center (CMPCC), Capitol Compound, Bayombong on December 4, 2025.

The event was organized by the provincial government under the leadership of Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENARO) headed by Acting ENR Officer Arlene S. Tarranco, in line with the observance of the National Environmental Awareness and Education Month.

5 schools showcased their talents in the “Sayawit” competition, a uniquely Filipino performance that merges expressive dance (sayaw) with live singing (awit). Performers were evaluated on harmony, choreography, environmental messaging, and vocal clarity while executing demanding movements.

Nueva Vizcaya General Comprehensive High School (NVGCHS) captured both the championship title and the People’s Choice Award, delivering a standout performance that impressed the audience and the judges. Muir Woods Academy, Inc. earned 1st runner-up, followed by Bagabag National High School as 2nd runner-up, Solano High School as 3rd runner- up, and Bintawan National High School as 4th runner- up.

Tarranco commended the participants for using art as a platform to inspire sustainable action. She emphasized that the event highlights the provincial government’s dedication in promoting environmental stewardship and strengthening youth involvement in environmental advocacy. This years’s esteemed panel of judges included Mr. Jayson F. Jalimao, founding organizer of the Guild of Artistic Rhythm and Assembly Organizers (GARAO) in Bambang; Dr. Reynaldo B. Velasco, educator and healthcare professional with PhD in Physical Education; and Mr. Khristian Marl Sevilla, member of the SMU Dance Troupe and a 2-time Regional Ethnic Dance and Latin Danceport champion.

The activity featured not only artistic talent but also the commitment of local youth in promoting environmental awareness through culture and performance. #jmcb
