NVPAA Meet Opens in Nueva Vizcaya

The Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Athletics Association (NVPAA) Meet formally opened yesterday, Feb. 4, at the Nueva Vizcaya Sports Complex, bringing together student-athletes from all 15 municipalities of the province.

Spearheaded by the Department of Education (DepEd)-Nueva Vizcaya, the annual meet provides a platform for young provincial athletes to showcase their skills across multiple events and to vie for slots on the provincial delegation bound for the Cagayan Valley Regional Athletics Association meet in April.

Before the opening program, athletes, coaches and municipal officials joined a parade from the provincial capitol to the sports complex.

DepEd Regional Director Benjamin Paragas, in his message, emphasized that competitions like the NVPAA Meet are not only about medals but also about the values athletes gain, including discipline and teamwork.

Schools Division Superintendent Orlando E. Manuel thanked Gov. Atty. Jose V. Gambito for allocating P1.5 million from the province’s Special Education Fund (SEF) to help finance the 2026 NVPAA Meet. Manuel said the allocation reflects the strong partnership between DepEd Nueva Vizcaya and the provincial leadership in promoting sports excellence and providing young athletes opportunities to develop their talents.

Gambito on the other hand, highlighted the importance of sports in shaping the youth by developing not only athletic skills but also discipline, teamwork and character, and reiterated support for programs that help young athletes grow and excel.

DepEd NV said the budget covered sports equipment, transportation, meals and snacks, uniforms, medical and dental supplies, and emergency and contingency needs. It also supported the operations of committees tasked with ensuring the smooth conduct of the annual event. #RMI
