The culminating celebration of National Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month in Nueva Vizcaya took place on October 30, 2025, in the Carlos M. Padilla Convention Center in the Capitol Compound, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. To that end, the Provincial Tourism and Culture Office (PTCO) hosted the Habi-Tat Vizcaya: Culture and Roots Exhibit and Trade Fair, featuring the weavers of the province and select Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Among the craftspeople showcasing their works in the exhibit are Aruga Handwovens, Abel Ripo, Mun-Abol Weavers, Myrna Aban, and Yen’s Handicrafts. The exhibit also adjoined the cultural clothing display of the Nueva Vizcaya People’s Museum and Library, showing the distinctive clothing designs of the Ibaloy, Gaddang, Bugkalot, Isinay, and Ifugao peoples of the province.
As a guest of honor during the National IP Month celebration, Saniata ti Nueva Vizcaya 2025 Karen Mae Guieb aided in showcasing the unique products of each weavers’ booth in her capacity as Tourism Ambassador for the province. The products on display include not only the specific weaves of each IP group, but special offerings such as garments that partially or completely incorporate handwoven fabrics, such as shirts, pants, jackets, and the Filipiniana-style bolero. Jewelry items such as headwear, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings were also for purchase during the event.
The important traditions that make the province culturally diverse and unique among others find new life not only in its practitioners, but in the greater awareness such events as the exhibit bring to the public. Through the hosting of such events, the weavers of the province can not only carry on with their enterprises, but continue these traditions into the modern age of Nueva Vizcaya. /igmb
