Nueva Vizcaya Prepositions Resources Ahead of TC Uwan

In anticipation of the possible impact of Tropical Cyclone Uwan, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) convened a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting on November 6, 2025, at the Executive Building of the Provincial Capitol.

Mr. Joselito F. Ramos, Chief Meteorological Officer of PAGASA–Nueva Vizcaya, reported that TC Uwan is expected to rapidly intensify into a typhoon by November 7 and may reach super typhoon category by November 8, with a possible landfall near Isabela. Although the province is not on the direct path, Nueva Vizcaya may still experience rains and strong winds, as the storm’s nearest position is projected on November 10, carrying winds of up to 150 km/h.

To ensure preparedness, concerned agencies presented their respective response measures. The PDRRMO confirmed the standby of assets and personnel and close coordination with PAGASA and MDRRMOs. The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and DSWD have prepositioned food packs and hygiene kits, while the Provincial Integrated Health Office (PIHO) ensured ambulances, drivers, and medical supplies are ready and RHUs are on alert.

The Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) and DPWH have prepositioned heavy equipment, including dump trucks, payloaders, and backhoes, for road clearing and infrastructure repair before and after the typhoon. National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has coordinated with PDRRMO to control irrigation gates and intakes to prevent flooding, while the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) activated Operation LISTO to guide LGUs in their preparedness operations.

Other agencies also raised their readiness levels as the Philippine National Police (PNP) -NV Provincial Office conducted an inventory of search and rescue equipment and activated its Disaster Incident Management System; the Department of Education (DepEd) prepared schools as temporary evacuation centers; and the BFP maintained coordination with 15 fire stations for rescue and emergency response. The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), meanwhile, is on full alert with equipment including a payloader, water tanker, treatment unit, rescue boat, and chainsaw for clearing operations.

Governor Jose V. “Jing” Gambito expressed gratitude to all agencies for their cooperation and proactive measures. “I thank all our partners for their commitment to the safety of our people. Let us remain vigilant and continue working together to ensure that Nueva Vizcaya stays prepared in the face of disasters,” the Governor said.

He adjourned the meeting with a message of hope saying “God bless Nueva Vizcaya.” /gpp
