Tourism, PGSO inspect Capisaan safety aids

By on September 5, 2019

Tourism Promotion and Development Division in cooperation with the Provincial General Services Office (PGSO) spearheaded the inspection of newly installed safety aids inside the Capisaan Cave System last August 8, 2019.

The project is in cooperation with Sang-at Salug Outdoor Club (SSOC) which aims to provide safety among tourists and prevent further damage on rock formations inside the cave.

According to Simonette La Corda, secretary of SSOC, the safety aids installed inside Capisaan cave were made from marine grade stainless steel purchased abroad. These include four railings, two ladders and one footbridge. These new safety rails replaced old wooden ladders, footbridge and rope railings which were unstable and dangerous.

The project started its planning stage during the administration of former Governor Ruth R. Padilla which required review and approval from Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Central Office and Regional Office, National Caving Committee and Philippine Speleological Society.

La Corda said that the request for installation of safety aid for the Capisaan Cave system is the first in the Philippine which also compelled government agencies and groups to scrutinize the said project.

The 1.1 million project was funded through the Provincial Local Government of Nueva Vizcaya headed by Governor Carlos M. Padilla. #cqc
