PGNV launches “Art Attack” anew

The Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV), through the Provincial Tourism and Culture Office (PTCO) headed by Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Marichelle O. Costales, launched once again its mural painting project, now dubbed “Vizcaya Sining Bida: Art Attack II”, as part of this year’s National Arts Month celebration.

STOO Costales said that the weeklong activity which started on February 17 aims to restore and extend the colorful mural on the 700-meter retaining wall between the Batu Ferry and Abian bridges in Bambang that features the province’s diverse cultures and rich ecosystems.

WWF-Philippines’ Ms. Ruthie Maye R. Padilla, the lone daughter of Governor Carlos M. Padilla and former Governor and OIC-NVSU President Ruth R. Padilla who spearheaded the maiden implementation of the project during the Arts Month celebration in 2020, is back again in the province for this month’s activity.

With her are some of her colleagues who also joined her then, including Mr. AG “Whale Boy” Saño, a renowned Filipino muralist, photographer, and environmental activist who is well-known for painting large-scale murals of dolphins and ecological issues in public spaces around the Philippines.

This year’s event has also drawn the participation of PGNV officers and staff led by Governor Padilla, local artists, youth organizations, and other volunteer peoples’ organizations.

“Promulgated by then President Corazon Aquino in 1991, Presidential Proclamation No. 683 declares February of every year as National Arts Month to celebrate artistic excellence and pay tribute to the uniqueness and diversity of the Filipino heritage and culture. This year’s theme, ‘Sining ng Pag-asa’, aims to recognize arts as a source and expression of hope as shown in the creative ways we respond to the effects of the pandemic, natural calamities, and other social realities, as well as the arts’ role in improving our community life as Filipinos.” [Source: www.ncca.gov.ph#jlc
