In the lush, mountainous landscapes of Kasibu, the spirit of green governance thrives as Barangay Malabing and Barangay Poblacion proudly represent the municipality in the Search for the ‘Makakalikasang Barangay’ 2025. Barangay Malabing competes in the upland category, while Barangay Poblacion vies for the lowland category.
Last October 27, 2025, the Provincial Evaluation Team visited both barangays to conduct on-site inspections and evaluations across different puroks, assessing their environmental practices, waste management systems, and sustainability initiatives.
Barangay Malabing stood out for its well-prepared presentation, showcasing thick folders of documentation and monitoring reports that reflect their dedication to environmental responsibility. The barangay also impressed the evaluators with a live demonstration on how residents recycle, reproduce, and reuse waste materials, turning these into profitable livelihood products per purok. Each group maintains a passbook recording their sales, ensuring transparency and accountability in their community-based enterprises.
Meanwhile, Barangay Poblacion proudly highlighted its large-scale vermicomposting project, earning recognition as one of the leading producers of vermicast in the area. In addition to organic waste management, residents showcased a variety of creative products made from recycled materials such as wallets, book holders, rugs, ornaments, and bags crafted from used sacks, turning waste into art and income.
The Search for the ‘Makakalikasang Barangay’ goes beyond being a mere competition. It serves as an avenue to recognize barangays that exemplify environmental excellence, encourage others to adopt sustainable practices, and strengthen compliance with Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. More importantly, it inspires collaboration among communities striving to build a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable province.
Through initiatives like this, Kasibu continues to prove that environmental care is not just a responsibility, but a shared commitment toward a resilient and thriving future when it comes to green governance. It proves that when communities unite for the environment, progress and sustainability go hand in hand. #jmcb
