Governor Jose V. Gambito announced on June 22, during the regular flag raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol, Bayombong, that he wishes Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV) employees to refrain from spending blowouts to colleagues during birthday celebrations, as part of the implementation of austerity measures and to spare staff from the financial burden of being expected to host treats.

The announcement, however, is not yet final. According to the Governor, the matter will still be discussed thoroughly, and the opinion and feedback of all employees will be sought first before any policy is decided upon.

The move is primarily intended to end the usual practice where birthday celebrants feel pressured to spend for food or refreshments for their colleagues, an obligation that often adds unnecessary expense to their personal budget. It also aligns with the government’s directive to observe simplicity and prudence in all activities within the service.

“This is still up for discussion. We will listen to what everyone has to say first,” Gov. Gambito said. “The main point is simply to stop the practice that requires employees to spend, in line with austerity and to lighten their load.”

Consultations with employees across all provincial departments and offices will be conducted in the coming days to gather their views before any formal action is taken. /mccd
