GO-PDAD Enacts Hearing Screening for PWDs

The Persons with Disability Affairs Division of the Governor’s Office spearheaded a two-day Hearing Screening for Persons with Disabilities at the FTM Building in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, from October 8 to October 9, 2025. A step in the process of procuring hearing aids for PWD clients, the activity saw more than 150 people undergo screening in preparation for eventual awarding.

According to Ms. Venus R. Cadabona, Disability Affairs Officer IV, the provision of both prostheses and hearing aids require similar processes, with the clients coming in for testing and fitting, and the awarding at a date yet to be determined. The first day saw 100 clients come in for the screening process, while the second day saw 50 clients, with an additional 14 clients being fitted for prostheses. The GO-PDAD also assists in the posting of the clients’ request letters to the Office of the President to aid in cost.

An extension of the earlier Prostheses Fitting and Awarding conducted in August spearheaded by the GO-PDAD, the activity is a collaboration between the provincial government and several partner agencies, namely the Office of the President, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region II (DSWD R2), and its adjoining Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Team, the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and PBF Prostheses and Brace Center, provider of the awarded prostheses and prospective hearing aids.

Ms. Cadabona stated that maintaining their partnership with the various agencies is part of their mandate. “(It is part of) linkaging, also with NGOs and private organizations. I hope and pray that they will be there always for continuity and sustainability, as we work to provide free services to our clients.”

She also expressed her gratitude to Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito and the partner agencies for their enduring support not only in the financial aspects but also in practical matters. “Everything we ask from (Governor Gambito), he provides if it is within budget; not just financially, but his presence. I also want to thank all the local offices, the PSWDO, DSWD, the SWAD team, NAPC, the Office of the President, everyone.”

Beyond their free services of provision of disability aids, Ms. Cadabona also emphasized the importance of grassroots empowerment. “The best thing we can do is offer free services as much as possible for the disadvantaged. Empowerment equals investment.”

While the awarding of more disability aids is yet to be determined, the PWD sector of Nueva Vizcaya is sure to receive more support and future activities to bolster their abilities and autonomy through the efforts of the GO-PDAD. /igmb
