The employment rate in Nueva Vizcaya rose to 98.6 percent in 2025 from 98.3 percent in 2024, according to preliminary results of the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) Nueva Vizcaya 2025 Labor Force Survey.
The province’s working‑age population (15 years and over) was estimated at 345,000, of which about 233,000 were in the labor force, yielding a labor force participation rate of 67.5 percent.
Despite the higher employment rate, the estimated number of employed persons in the province declined slightly to about 230,000 in 2025 from 232,000 in 2024. The province labor force also contracted, dropping to approximately 233,000 from 236,000 during the same period, helping explain the increase in the employment rate despite the lower number of employed individuals.
The province likewise posted an improvement in unemployment. The unemployment rate fell to 1.4 percent in 2025 from 1.7 percent in 2024, while the estimated number of unemployed persons decreased to around 3,000 from 4,000.
However, underemployment worsened, with the rate rising to 14.2 percent in 2025 from 13.4 percent in 2024. The increase indicates that a larger proportion of employed workers sought additional working hours or supplementary employment.
“The sustained increase in Nueva Vizcaya’semployment rate reflects the strength andresilience of our local economy, which has consistently been one the fastest-growing in the region. It is proof that our investments in agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, and livelihood programs are creating more opportunities for our people,” Governor Jose V. Gambito said.
“While we are encouraged by this positive development, we also recognize the need to address underemployment by generating more quality jobs and improving the incomes of our workers,” he added.
The PSA defines unemployed persons as individuals aged 15 years and over who had no work, were available for work, and were actively seeking employment. The definition also includes those who were not actively looking for work because they were awaiting recall to a previous job, were discouraged, temporarily ill, affected by bad weather, or awaiting the results of job applications.
