NV goes to Robinsons Santiago

The Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV) headed by Governor Carlos M. Padilla, through the Provincial Tourism and Culture Office (PTCO) and Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office (PROCEDE Office), partnered with the Robinsons Place Santiago in coordination with its Operations Manager Margarita A. Buminaang for the maiden implementation of the “NV goes to Robinsons Santiago: Travel and Trade Expo” project.

This mall activity that ran on September 16-18, 2022 was aimed at promoting the province’s ecotourism and agri-business industries, through the participation of entrepreneurs and industry leaders orchestrated by the said PGNV offices, and with the help of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

DTI-Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Director Marietta B. Salviejo, who kicked off the three-day activity, stressed in her opening remarks the creativity of God, and the endowed men and women of the province who are also instrumental in accelerating its socio-economic development. “They are indeed helping transform the province from a mere gateway to a popular tourist destination”, she added.

She also declared that two exhibitors from Nueva Vizcaya have been invited by their agency to join in the forthcoming prestigious International Food Exposition in Manila that is spearheaded by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), the export promotion arm of the DTI.

“We are hoping that Nueva Vizcaya will be represented again in a similar activity that has been set to be held in the People’s Republic of China”, she added.

The Santiago City government officials headed by Mayor Alyssa Sheena P. Tan warmly welcomed the Nueva Vizcaya delegation as they also expressed their “full cooperation and support for more mutually-benefiting collaborations”.

Former Governor Ruth R. Padilla who chairs the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Tourism Council (NVPTC) acknowledged the efforts of the heads and staff of the PGNV offices jointly implementing the project.

She also graciously thanked the officials of the host Company and City Government, along with the participating entrepreneurs, and executive and legislative officials of the PGNV led by Vice Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito.

In closing, she enjoined all concerned to do their share as the LGUs and the nation at large face the challenges and uncertainties ahead.

The opening day also marked the launching of the Nueva Vizcaya Bucket List featuring photos of the province’s tourism sites, crowd-drawing activities, and flagship commodities taken and arranged by: Mr. Ruben B. Baguio, Jr., a Youtube content creator from Dupax Del Sur, digitally known as “Gayyem Benben”; Mr. Kim Brandon Carnate, a local multimedia artist and entrepreneur from Bambang; and internationally acclaimed photographer and documenter, Ms. Xyza Cruz Bacani, who also hails from Bambang.

Spicing up the event were the live performances of Nueva Vizcaya’s best artists, namely: 1st day, Kwerdas and Ari-Tau Folkloric Society; 2nd day, Punla and Dupax Sur Eagle Orchestra; and 3rd day, Memory Lane and Giomere Banzon.

“This joint initiative between our office (formerly, Provincial Cooperative Affairs Office headed then by Dr. Benjamin L. Daquioag) and the PTCO (formerly, GO-Tourism Division headed then by Ms. Marites B. Saddul) in collaboration with Malls and Local Governments traces back to the administration of former Governor Rodolfo Q. Agbayani. Seeing its strategic competitive advantages in helping accelerate the socio-economic development of the province and its people, succeeding administrations continued the program.”, said Mr. Aurelio B. Bibay, Administrative Officer IV of the PROCEDE Office.

The concept of this Expo is primarily anchored on the “(A)griculture and Food Security” and “(T)ourism Promotion and Development” components of the long-running holistic PRAYERS N FAITH platform of public administration and governance of the present leadership that was first adopted during the term of then-Governor Ruth R. Padilla.

“The Tourism Division that was transformed into a regular department (i.e, PTCO) last year by the present administration had been aggressively pursuing promotional activities, capitalizing on major events and its broadened network of partners within and outside the province”, said Acting PTCO Chief Marichelle O. Costales.

Along that development thrust, the PGNV has packaged the province’s revenue-generating products and other assets, which include: handicrafts; fresh and processed foods; natural scenery, i.e., waterfalls, cave systems, seas of clouds, watersheds, and forest reserves; historical and cultural inventories, i.e., Spanish and WWII landmarks and artifacts, and native products of the about 20 ethnolinguistic groups/indigenous cultural communities in the province; ultra-challenging adventures, i.e., spelunking, mountain-trekking/hiking, and paragliding; culinary, featuring native and exotic cuisines; fiestas, highlighting the province’s most-awaited Grand Ammungan Festival and the different municipal festivities; and ecotourism farms and resorts, i.e., the Lower Magat Ecotourism Park, and numerous agri-business farms and nature-based resorts.

Incidentally, the Department of Agriculture (DA), through the Administrative Order of then-Secretary Dr. William D. Dar, dated June 24, 2022, declared Nueva Vizcaya’s Municipality of Kasibu as the “Citrus Capital of Luzon”. The DA emphasized the importance of this “One Town One Product” to the livelihood and income of the LGU residents, and the need to further develop its value chain in order to enhance its contribution to the national economy. The province’s Citrus industry derives fiscal and technical support from concerned provincial and municipal government offices, as well as national government agencies led by the DA.

Cognizant of his game-changing strategies and accomplishments that have far-reaching implications on the development of the Agribusiness Sector of the province and the whole nation, the officialdom of the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), then headed by Mdm. Padilla, conferred on him the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Organization Development and Planning, Honoris Causa, on July 27, 2022 at the Nueva Vizcaya Convention Center, Provincial Capitol.
