On March 31, 2026, the Nueva Vizcaya Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NVDRRMC) convened for its 1st Quarter Meeting in the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Evacuation Center, Capitol Compound, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.
The meeting was presided over by Vice Governor Eufemia A. Dacayo and PDRRM Officer Robert L. Corpuz, and was attended by representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), 203rd Reserved Command, Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Police Office (NVPPO), Philippine Atmospheric and Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and other local and national government agencies and offices.
In preparation for Semana Santa in the province, the NVPPO provided a comprehensive list of places of worship within the province as well as their own prepared measures in combatting what issues may arise during the week-long holy celebration. The BFP and 203rd* Rescom gave similar reports with detailed numbers of deployable bodies in traffic-heavy areas, alongside the DPWH’s Lakbay Alalay program. The PDRRMO also attested to the alertness of its Operations Center and the Nueva Vizcaya Emergency Response Team during this time. A motion was passed and approved calling for a temporary halt to ongoing road projects during Semana Santa.
Similarly, a representative from PAGASA updated the council with a climate outlook report, which included the probability of El Nino in the country, warning that this may take place in September. However, with the rising heat index in the province, concerns of heat-related conditions such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion, etc., were raised for the information of the council, with PAGASA advising against prolonged exposure to the sun and for frequent hydration.
While such events are often the cause of unavoidable issues such as weather-induced sickness, crowding, minor risk of accidents, etc., the preparations by the local government units and agencies are paramount in ensuring the smooth celebration of such essential spiritual undertakings in the province. /igmb
