The Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya, through the Governor’s Office-Population Division (GO-Pop), kicked off the annual Population and Development (POPDEV) Week on November 23, 2023. This year’s theme, “CPD: Katuwang ng Lokal na Pamahalaan sa Pagpapaunlad ng Pamilya at Pamayanan,” emphasizes the crucial role of families and local communities in policy-making processes, ensuring that initiatives are contextually relevant and responsive to population needs.

Governor Jose V. Gambito, a staunch advocate for community welfare, expressed his full support for this initiative, underlining his commitment to addressing population and development issues in Nueva Vizcaya.

POPDEV Week is a yearly celebration established through Proclamation No. 76 signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos. The proclamation declares the period from November 23-29 as Population and Development Week. The aim is to raise awareness about the interrelationship of population issues and development, and to intensify campaigns and draw policies and programs on population concerns from various stakeholders.

Section 9, Article II of the Constitution provides a constitutional mandate for the state to promote a just and dynamic social order that ensures national prosperity and independence. It emphasizes the role of policies in providing adequate social services, promoting full employment, and enhancing the standard of living and overall quality of life for all citizens.

In embracing POPDEV Week, the province aligns itself with the constitutional principles of fostering a just and dynamic social order. By actively involving local communities in decision-making processes, the province aims to create policies and programs that not only address population concerns but also contribute to the broader goal of elevating the standard of living for its residents.

“The launch of POPDEV Week in Nueva Vizcaya signifies a commitment to holistic development, recognizing that sustainable progress is deeply intertwined with the active participation of families and communities”, said Ms. Elvira G. Tongson, Provincial Population Officer-Designate.

Various activities and campaigns engaged citizens, stakeholders, and policymakers alike, fostering a collaborative approach towards building a more inclusive and prosperous future for the province. #mvs
