NV bags prestigious Nutrition Award anew

The Province of Nueva Vizcaya was conferred again the highly coveted national Nutrition Honor Award (NHA) in a ceremony held on December 2, 2022 in Cauayan City, Isabela.

The NHA plaque was handed over to former Governor and Abot Palad Provincial President Ruth Raña Padilla who represents non-government organizations (NGOs) in the Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC). Joining her were Provincial Administrator Maybelle Dumlao Sevillena, Board Member Eunice Galima Gambol, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s Committee on Health, and Provincial Nutrition Officer Luzviminda P. Ragpa who concurrently heads the PNC’s Secretariat and Technical Working Group.

This latest NHA of Nueva Vizcaya is a manifestation of its sustained exemplary performance in Nutrition Program implementation, where it has been a perennial Green Banner, CROWN, and CROWN Maintenance Awardee dating some years way ahead of the other provinces in the Region.

PNO Ragpa explained that the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Award is received by municipalities, cities, and/or provinces that excelled in Nutrition Program Management (NPM) and have been bestowed the Green Banner Award in their respective regions for three consecutive years. After another year of sustained outstanding nutrition programs implemented, as validated by a nutrition evaluation team, the first-year CROWN Maintenance Award is given, and following three years of consistent outstanding NPM performances as CROWN Maintenance Awardees, Local Government Units (LGUs) are conferred the NHA, which is the highest and most prestigious recognition award from the National Nutrition Council (NNC).

The municipalities of Ambaguio and Santa Fe got their 1st Green Banner Awards. Garnering a 2nd Green Banner Award were Dupax del Norte, Kasibu, and Villaverde, which now makes them potential recipients of the CROWN Award next year.

Four local Nutrition program workers of the Province were also given awards, namely:

* 1st Runner-up, Regional Outstanding District Nutrition Program Coordinator (DNPC): Mr. Ruben Ramuel C. Ambatali II, Nutrition Officer II, Nutrition Division of the Governor’s Office;

* 2nd Runner-up, Regional Outstanding Local Nutrition Action Officer: Dr. Mary Ruth C. Reyes, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer of Dupax del Norte;

* 1st Runner-up, Regional Outstanding Local Nutrition Program Coordinator: Ms. Shimelei D. Infante, Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinator of Kasibu; and

* Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar: Ms. Jennifer R. Collado of Wacal, Solano.

The 6-member team from the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), namely, Jenick C. Tagao, Ponz Rhudolf C. Torres, Mark Kevein A. De Asis, Janice F. Julian, Mark Klein N. Inocencio, and Marcelino W. Pait, notched the 2nd Place in the 2022 Nutrition Month Regional Short Film Competition. Receiving the Plaque of Recognition was team member Tagao, who was accompanied by NVSU’s NCSSC Chairperson and Student Regent Keneith M. Natura, and former NVSU OIC-President Ruth R. Padilla.

The NNC is the country’s premier policy-making body on Nutrition and is mandated, among others, to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN).

In pursuance thereof, the NNC annually conducts, along with other agencies, the Monitoring, and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol (MELLPI Pro) which, according to Dr. Amelita M. Pangilinan, Regional Director of the DOH-R02 and concurrent Chairperson of the Regional Nutrition Council, is the basis of the institutionalized awarding program.

She said that the program is aimed at recognizing and paying tribute to LGUs, Local Nutrition Focal Persons, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and other Nutrition advocates and champions for the exemplary work that they have done to help improve the nutrition status of the Region and the nation at large. It also serves to encourage all concerned to renew their commitment and be more active partners in the concerted efforts of achieving noble ends for the nation by elevating its Nutrition Program to new and greater heights. #jlc#mccd#cqc
