PNA-BG Chairperson Puguon joins ICN’s LCP

Ms. Leticia B. Puguon, RN, Ph.D., Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA-BG), participated in the Leadership for Change Programme (LCP) of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) held on July 11-16, 2022 in Taipei, Taiwan.

The goal of this international capability-building activity is to help strengthen the important role of nurses in the communities with the end in view of enhancing further the health and wellness services that they deliver therein, in line with the concerted efforts of achieving better health outcomes across the globe amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges, in general.

Specifically, the LCP training was designed to equip the nurse leaders with some knowledge and skills in leadership, communication, and program/project management.

Training resource persons and facilitators from the Taiwan Nurses Association (TWNA) aided the trainees from the Philippines, Mexico, Mongolia, Sta. Lucia and the host country as they engaged in learning activities and workshops, which include crafting development plans and team-based projects.

According to Dr. Puguon, the training program included knowledge sharing, and for her part, she presented an action plan that focuses on the empowerment of her fellow Governors by deepening their knowledge and understanding of the provisions of the PNA’s Constitution and By-laws, guidelines, and development agenda.

“To complete the training program and be recognized as bona fide ICN-LFC graduates, the participants need to attend the 2nd workshop set for February 2023”, she said.

“This is a memorable training I will forever cherish, as it gave me additional knowledge on leadership on an international level which is very useful in my practice as a nurse leader in the Philippines” she added.

Dr. Puguon who hails from Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya, was a Public Health Nurse for 37 years and thereafter an Administrative Officer for 19 months under the Provincial Integrated Health Office of the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV). Until she retired in August 2019, she served as Supervising Administrative Officer in the Office of the Provincial Governor. During her stint in government, she concurrently served as President of the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Employees Association and held several local and national PNA positions, including the Cagayan Valley governorship. #gpp
