Awards highlight PGNV’s WPD2022 celebration

The Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV) celebrated World Population Day (WPD) on July 18, 2022 at the Provincial Capitol with the conduct of orientations on the 2022-2028 Regional Population and Development Program of Action for the province’s population and health workers and members of the 11th Sangguniang Panlalawigan. Highlighting the day’s event was the Awarding of Plaques of Recognition to the Municipal Government of Kayapa headed by Mayor Dr. Elizabeth D. Balasya for having been adjudged Most Outstanding Municipality of Region II in advancing Adolescent Health and Development (1st Place), and Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (1st Place). Kayapa was also hailed for being a National Finalist in the Kaunlarang Pantao Award (KPA) program of the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM).

The LGU was previously awarded by the Region II Office of the POPCOM and the PGNV the same Plaques/Certificates of Recognition along with the corresponding cash prizes for each of the two categories in ceremonies held last April 1 in Santiago City and July 11 in Kayapa, respectively.

“These honors conferred upon our humble LGU shall serve both as an inspiration and challenge to all of us. We are now indeed motivated, more than ever, to deliver excellent services to our constituents as we all strive to achieve more and higher awards.”, the elated Mayor said.

Winners in the online Tik-Tok Challenge and Jingle Making/Singing contests, which also highlighted the participation of the DepEd’s Schools Division of Nueva Vizcaya, in cooperation with the Provincial Population Coordinating Council (PPCC), were likewise awarded Certificates of Recognition and cash incentives. Both categories of the online competition undertaken via Facebook were dominated by entries coming from the Nueva Vizcaya General Comprehensive High School (NVGCHS).

Jharley Maligsa Ang of the Municipality of Bagabag, one among the 100 infants born on July 27, 2014 in State hospitals across the archipelago who were symbolically designated by the POPCOM as “100 Millionth Baby”, was also present. He was acknowledged as well and given some gift items by the organizers.

POPCOM-R02 Regional Director Herita O. Macarubbo, who will be celebrating her birthday the following day, and the members of her team of resource persons were also feted. RD Macarubbo, thanked the PGNV and all its other partners in the province for their continuing support to the Commission’s programs.

In her message, former Governor Ruth R. Padilla who is presently serving as OIC-President of the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) and Chairperson of the PGNV’s Social Development Committee (SODCOM), among others, also graced the occasion to represent Governor Carlos M. Padilla. She expressed her appreciation for the well-organized activity that was orchestrated by the PGNV’s 5-man Population Division headed by Provincial Population Officer-Designate Elvira G. Tongson, as she emphasized the critical role of population and health workers vis-a-vis the well-being of the province, especially in light of the ever-expanding world population and the ongoing pandemic and other international and domestic challenges that the nation is facing.
