NV’s Kadiwa features Local Food Challenge

The Timpuyog Ti Babbalasang Idi Kalman (TIBIK) launched its version of Local Food Challenge, featuring “Sinabawang Tilapia”, on March 1, 2024 at the People’s Stage-Quadrangle, Provincial Capitol, the designated venue of the province’s Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) Friday event.

The contenders in the day’s competition, graced by Board Member and TIBIK Consultant Roland M. Carub, were TIBIK members from the municipalities of Bagabag, Bayombong, Quezon, Solano, and Villaverde.

The Bagabag entry was the runaway winner of the P5,000 cash prize at stake, as declared by the contest’s Board of Judges composed of representatives from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Nueva Vizcaya Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises Association (NVSMSEA), and TIBIK’s Kasibu and Bambang chapters.

Part of the activity was a free food tasting among the spectators following the proclamation of the winner.

Ms. Jeanilyn S. Bermudez of Quezon, TIBIK’s incumbent President said that the contest was launched purposely to help invigorate further the KNP that they are spearheading in the province in tandem with the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV) headed by Governor Jose V. Gambito, and concerned national government agencies, i.e., Department of Agriculture (DA), KNP’s lead convenor, along with its co-convenors, namely, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“The contest is rotational among TIBIK’s component chapters and, next Friday, we are planning to feature “Inihaw na Tilapia”, she added.

“TIBIK was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on April 08, 2016, and is clothed with accreditations from the DA, DTI, DOLE, and the Sangguniang Panlawigan of Nueva Vizcaya (SPNV), among others”, said Ms. Merling S. Agbayani, a TIBIK founding member who served as its first President.

This organization plays a significant role in agri-business development and advocacy, actively participating in government initiatives, like the KNP, to support local farmers and SMSEs and promote sustainable agriculture in the province.

The KNP, on the other hand, aims to provide affordable and accessible food to Pilipinos by connecting farmers directly with consumers. Its benefits include ensuring fair prices for both farmers and consumers, reducing food waste, and promoting food security and self-sufficiency in the country. Additionally, it supports local farmers and stimulates economic growth, particularly in rural areas.

Employees and clients of offices at the Provincial Capitol altogether appreciate the program as it indeed gives them easy access to affordable fresh and processed food items and other goods.
